U.S. Income payments from Korea from 2003 to 2014

Although the size of U.S. financial investments is less than 50% of Korea financial investments, the U.S. income payments from Korea is larger than Korea income payments from U.S., which the following charts illustrates from 2003 to 2014. The U.S. had earned $89 billions of dollars versus Korea’s earnings of $86 billions of dollars during this period. The major sources of U.S. income payments are direct investment income and portfolio investment income while the major source of Korea income payments is portfolio investment income. Therefore, the performance of Korean financial investments in the U.S. is outperformed by the performance of U.S. financial investments in the Korea. The U.S. has been investing in higher return and higher risk investments than Korea.
